Midnight Is Here: Olivia Rodrigo's Third Album Drops Tonight

Olivia Rodrigo's third studio album *you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love* drops at midnight tonight (June 12), with nearly 200 record stores throwing countdown parties across the US. Here's what's on the 13-track record — including the Robert Smith duet that made her cry at Primavera Sound — and where to hear it first.

Tonight, at midnight, it's finally real.
Nearly 200 independent record stores across the US are throwing countdown parties right now — fans lining up outside, exclusive merch stacked on the tables, a limited 7-inch vinyl of "honeybee" and "cigarette smoke" available only tonight — all for you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love, Olivia Rodrigo's third studio album, which drops June 12 via Geffen Records. 1
Record Store Day organized the rollout — and calls it the largest midnight sale in at least a decade. If you needed a sign of how badly people want this record, that's it. 1

The two sides of the record

The tracklist has a structure worth pausing on — not because it's gimmicky, but because it means something. Rodrigo split the 13 songs into two labeled halves: "Girl So in Love" (tracks 1–7) and "You Seem Pretty Sad" (tracks 8–13), which together spell out the full album title. 2
The first half leads with "drop dead," the lead single that hit No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 on release — and then goes deeper: "stupid song," "honeybee," "maggots for brains," "u + me = <3," "my way," "purple." The second half opens with "the cure," her second single (No. 1 on Hot Rock & Alternative, No. 5 on the Hot 100) 3, and builds toward the album's emotional center: "begged" (she performed it cold on SNL in May), "what's wrong with me," "less," "expectations," "cigarette smoke."
Both of her previous albums — Sour in 2021 and Guts in 2023 — debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200. 2 She told British Vogue earlier this year: "I realized all my favorite romantic love songs were beautiful because they had a tinge of fear or yearning in them. I felt a similar way about falling in love, that the second I'm in a really great relationship, I'm gonna start feeling good about myself — but it just doesn't work like that." 2
The album title itself came from her producer Dan Nigro mid-conversation. "He said something like: 'Ah, you seem pretty sad for a girl so in love,' just in a normal conversation," Rodrigo recalled, "and I was like: 'wow.'"

Track 10: Robert Smith

This is the song that nobody fully expected, even after Glastonbury 2025.
Last June, Rodrigo and The Cure's Robert Smith played "Friday I'm In Love" and "Just Like Heaven" together at Glastonbury — a pairing that went viral partly because the cultural gap between them is so enormous, and partly because it clearly meant everything to her. She cited Smith on drop dead, working the title of "Just Like Heaven" into the opening verse. 4
Then, on June 6 at Primavera Sound in Barcelona, she announced a surprise set at 10:25 p.m. local time — and didn't tell anyone Smith was coming.
"I can't believe this song exists with the person that it exists with. I'm just so f—ing over the moon," she told the crowd before they played it. 4
"What's wrong with me" is track 10 — the first time she's ever featured another artist on an album — and the lyrics don't soft-pedal the feeling: "I can't eat, I can't sleep / I think you're what's wrong with me." Smith comes in on verse two: "Head just keeps on pounding with the simple thought / 'What if this isn't what I want?'" Their voices layer through the chorus and into the outro. 4
After the song ended at Primavera, she hugged him and said: "I feel like I'm gonna cry … I can't believe that that's a thing that happened in the real world and not just a figment of my imagination." 4

Where to hear it — and the LA pop-ups

The album streams everywhere at midnight. Physical copies — vinyl, cassette, CD in multiple variant editions — are at her official store. 1
If you're in LA, she's running two experiences through the weekend: "the park experience" (walk-in photo ops and interactive moments, open June 11 through 14) and "the cure gallery" (an immersive version of the video set for "the cure," open June 12–14) — both with early access for American Express cardholders. 5
The Unraveled Tour — named after a lyric from "the cure" — launches in September in Hartford, CT, and runs across North America and Europe. It's sold out. 4
She told Nylon last October that 2026 would be "a busy year." Midnight tonight is the main event.
